Celebrating 38 Years
As I sit at my desk and reflect on the 38 years of operation of Paddington Markets, I look back on its humble beginnings.
Way back then, the Hall was used for people to create objects during the week to sell on weekends. It was very much a creative space, with many a young fashion designer, craftsperson, and visual artist who “cut their teeth” here before venturing out into the business world.
The mission is still the same – we support emerging designers, and encourage artists, and still remain with a strong focus on Australian Made. Some of the older stall holders are still here. Without them we would not have a Market!!!
We as a Parish Mission in Paddington feed many homeless, and socially isolated people every day. The general public are not aware of this important part of our community services. I am truly blessed to see the money we raise from renting stalls at the Market get turned into food, and providing support for people who do not have the core basic necessities met, food, shelter and clothing. We see 65 -70 people fed daily.
The applications to trade are still arriving on our desk. Many people wish to trade here, because it is the oldest and most established Market in Australia. It is the only Not for Profit Market that people can come and shop, and find a unique gift or item. We still draw massive crowds from Interstate, overseas, and of course our Paddington local Residents.
Some come and have a look at our new refurbished Market, shop locally and support Australian Made Products!!!!
